our beginnings
It all started with one woman’s vision to provide affordable, quality childrenswear with a distinctive fashion edge. Her vision that started as a simple mail-order catalogue became a reality when the first stunning Pumpkin Patch store opened its doors in 1990, in New Zealand. Inside was a treasure-trove of fresh, funky fashion for babies, toddler boys and girls… and all the way through to pre-teens. The Collections offered ‘seriously fun’ clothes that have wide appeal providing quality and value – every parents dream. Parents and kids alike fell in love with the inspiring and innovative designs!
The first Patch seed had been planted and growth continued at a rapid pace with Pumpkin Patch becoming the ultimate one-stop kidswear store across Australasia. In 2000 the first United Kingdom store opened and in August 2005 we introduced our mail-order catalogue and shopping online into the United Kingdom - making purchasing our collections even easier. With stores now open in the UK and the USA building the Pumpkin Patch brand and bringing it to as many customers as possible is our main focus. We have formed partnerships with successful international retailers and sell in high profile department stores throughout Ireland, the Middle East and the United States. We are also available in selected department stores in the USA including Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdale and Von Maur.
This sort of growth didn’t just happen overnight, and it certainly doesn’t happen unless you’ve got something special to offer. We feel Pumpkin Patch is exactly that ‘something special’ and we’re passionate about bringing our loyal customers the best collections we can, season after season.
The entire Pumpkin Patch collection is designed by our dedicated in-house design team who guarantee each garment is fresh and fun with a distinctive Patch signature. The extensive fashion collections include babywear, kidswear, nightwear, swimwear, rainwear, accessories, and footwear. ‘Urban Angel Girls’, also available, is a modern range designed for young girls (8-14 years) to experiment with and in, and help create their very own personal style. There’s also a modern maternity line that ensures all moms-to-be retain their ‘fashion flair’ through those special expanding months.
We value the relationships in our workplace, where the culture is inspired by family values. We’re proud to support the community in various ways along with working parents by providing a crèche at our head office. We also employ many husbands, wives and other loved ones in different areas of the company. Many of our foundation employees can still be found in varied areas around our company and contribute to the ‘family’ atmosphere at the Patch.
We take our responsibility to the community seriously, whether it is our local community in New Zealand, or the communities in which workers from our suppliers’ factories live. We aim to treat our employees with respect, dignity and fairness and we want our suppliers and their factories to do the same with their employees. Pumpkin Patch are also proud to be associated with the Make- A- Wish Foundation UK® and to be a global partner of the children’s charity Cure Kids.
Our strong mix of distinctive quality product; marketing expertise; strong customer focus; enthusiastic people and up-to-the-moment technology has created a unique brand… a brand that is the leader in its market. The loyalty we receive from our customers makes the hard-work so worthwhile. Our company continues to grow and we are well aware none of it would have been possible without their support.
As we reach the one year mark as a ‘publicly traded company’ we celebrate employing over 1,700 people and producing well over 1500 styles per season! With a strong history of revenue and earning growth Pumpkin Patch, thanks to its core Australasian business, is at an exciting stage of growth. It gives us great pleasure to bring our gorgeous brand to the UK through our retails stores, our mail-order catalogue or online shopping.
So come catch the Patch dream… we can’t wait to see you in store soon!
